Northern Spy, RIP

April 8, 2010

Not necessarily a dairy-related post, but close enough as far as I’m concerned. Surely this magnificent animal deserves some respect on his passing.

The great ox known as “Northern Spy” — just Spy to his friends, which was everybody — passed away a few months ago at his home at Springfield Plantation in Liberty County, Ga.

The big fella delighted guests at the plantation’s resident B&B, Dunham Farms. Housed in a fully restored, circa 1940s barn, Dunham Farms is hosted by the delightful Devendorf family, who have owned and worked this beautiful parcel of land for generations.  (Check them out at dunhamfarms.com)

These are shots from the last time I saw Spy, in September 2009. He will be missed.
